There is increasing recognition on a national level that Personal
Assistant Services (PAS) has the potential to become an effective method
of serving people with Serious and Persistent Mental Illness (SPMI). The
State of Louisiana maintains a strong commitment to providing a
comprehensive system of flexible supports in order for persons with
mental illness to achieve and maintain community living status and has
been exploring ways that this service can best be utilized. The
